TAKE A KNEE HERO’S

My friend and often guest writer, Ron Jenkins, a retired US Air force Officer sent me this wonderful message that put a tear in this old Navy mans eyes. It is a shame that most Americans have no idea what our special military families endure. C Brewer
Ron, I received this from an old friend………..
Eglin Joint Base Command located near Ft. Walton, Florida, is presently the largest Military Complex in the world and encompasses a large contingent of Air Force units, Naval Warfare units, and the 7th Army Special Forces and 6th Army Rangers. My home is exactly 5 miles outside the main gate of Eglin AFB.

Most folks in the USA don’t live in a Military Town, with lots of guys in uniform walking the streets and jets overhead daily.  They go on with their lives unaware of what a Military Town is all about.  And that’s OK… but I want to share with you what it’s like to live in a Military Town.

We see guys in uniform all the time, we have state of the art, high-performance aircraft in the air nearby all day long.  We hear the SOUND OF FREEDOM when an F-22 or F-35 streaks over the house… and we read in the local paper, sometimes daily, but at least weekly, of the loss of one of our own in combat in the Middle East.  And that is what brings me to the reason for this email.

Staff Sergeant Mark DeAlencar was 37 years old, had a family and was a Green Beret with the 7th Army Special Forces stationed here in the Fort Walton area.  He was killed on April 8, 2017, while fighting Islamic State in eastern Afghanistan.

In January of this year, he was deployed for the second time to Afghanistan.  He promised his adopted daughter, Octavia, that he would be home for her High School Graduation.  He didn’t make it.  But she went to graduation anyway.  And in the audience were eighty (80) US 7th Armed Special Forces soldiers from her dad’s unit in full Parade Dress Uniform. Additionally, they brought THEIR FAMILIES to be with them, as well.

And as Octavia ascended the steps to the stage to receive her diploma THEY ALL SILENTLY STOOD UP.  And when she was presented her diploma they ALL CHEERED, CLAPPED, WHISTLED… and YES, CRIED.  Everyone in attendance then stood up and cried and cheered.

Octavia had graduated and yes she had lost her Dad…but she had found 80 other DADS to stand there with her and take his place.

I just wanted to share this moment with you… and remind you that THIS IS WHAT IT’S LIKE TO LIVE IN A MILITARY TOWN.

This is the real America we all love… and I’m proud to be part of it.

May God bless our men in uniform and their families who give so much.

Take a second to share this with everyone you know.  It’s the least we can do for Octavia and SSgt Mark DeAlencar, 7th Special Forces, United States Army.)

And these do-nothing, accomplishment-less, shameless, punk sports figures who are so proud of their juvenile take-a-knee crap…WOW

Transgenders In The Military

Unless you have served in the active duty military you have no right to even discuss these issues. It takes a lot of guts to sign up and lose many rights you have had  for a given period of time. I volunteered to serve and went through this experience at 17 years old. When I served, segregation was still in effect and that was wrong. The Navy not only made me a man quickly it introduced me to the honor of being a veteran of the United States Military. Even the government can’t deny me the right of being “Honorably” Discharged. If you don’t have the desire to volunteer to serve in the military they certainly don’t want you for sure      C Brewer   8-3-17

Transgenders In The Military

Best response I have read  in regards to the the negative feedback about transgenders being banned again from the military…

From Sgt. Robert Brown US Army

Nobody has a “right” to serve in the Military.  Nobody.

What makes people think the Military is an equal opportunity employer?  Very far from it.

The Military uses prejudice regularly and consistently to deny citizens from joining for being too old or too young, too fat or too skinny, too tall or too short.

Citizens are denied for having flat feet, or for missing or additional fingers.  Poor eyesight will disqualify you, as well as bad teeth.  Malnourished?  Drug addiction?  Bad back?  Criminal history?  Low IQ?  Anxiety?  Phobias?  Hearing damage?  Six arms?  Hear voices in your head?  Self-identify as a Unicorn?  Need a special access ramp for your wheelchair?  Can’t run the required course in the required time?  Can’t do the required number of pushups?

Not really a “morning person” and refuse to get out of bed before noon?

All can be reasons for denial.

The Military has one job.  War.  Anything else is a distraction and a liability.

Did someone just scream “That isn’t Fair”?  War is VERY unfair, there are no exceptions made for being special or challenged or socially wonderful.

YOU change yourself to meet Military standards.  Not the other way around.

I say again:  You don’t change the Military… you must change yourself.

The Military doesn’t need to accommodate anyone with special issues.  The Military needs to Win Wars.

If any of your personal issues are a liability that detract from readiness or lethality… Thank you for applying and good luck in future endeavors.  Who’s next in line?

AMERICA AT WAR WITH ITSELF!

I would like to suggest that Congress, President Trump and every American who cares to consider initiating action to require a new military draft.

Over the last several years our College and University professors have successfully and overtly created a new youth movement to challenge our Constitution. It is also apparent that parents in the last fifty years have decided to make our education systems responsible for teaching discipline to our youth. Folks this shift in who teaches our children how to take orders has failed and miserably.

I have never seen parents teach their children how to protest free speech, have you? I have never seen parents teach their kids how to burn the American flag, have you? I have never seen parents teach their children how to destroy property, have you? I have never seen parents teach their children how to protest and kill the police, have you?

What has happened to cause our young people to protest everything and who teaches them to use violence? Unless you are blind, deaf, afflicted, insane it is obvious our Colleges and Universities are the reasons. They do have help from some dissident members of Congress like Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, Elijah Cummings, Bernie Sanders and other Socialists zealots. They have the main stream media morons like Juan Williams, Chris Matthews and the army of biased Progressive-Liberals who poison minds with biased and slanted commentary.

North Korea is rattling sabers and they are equipped with nuclear weapons. They have a leader who appears to need confinement in a “Laughing Academy” or as most call it an insane asylum on the brink of war. I served in the military in the first Korean war some 68 years ago and what a great time in our history to return to the draft.

Parents have failed, our Colleges and Universities have become more dangerous for America’s future than North Korea will ever be. Starting with sit-ins, silent protest and peaceful demonstrations we now have flag burning, property damage and killing a policeman common practices every day.

It is time for Congress establish six months of mandatory military service which can be optional when they graduate high school or when they earn a college degree in four years or less. Having served from 17 until 21 it would be fun to watch a flag burning happening on a military facility. Watching the consequence of destroying government property would be quite a surprise to one of these protesters on a military facility. Cleaning a restroom with a toothbrush 24 straight hours will make you wish you obeyed every command.

The real test of effectiveness would be watching one of these destined college professors have to attend boot camp in a Marine Corps facility when they did their six months.

This would include boys and girls who received no discipline from their parents. I dreaded taking home a “B” which would have grounded me by my mother until I joined the US Navy. Boot camp for me was a transition from boy to man and I will forever appreciate this preparation for me to seek success that followed.

Many people exceeded my financial success but few ever worked in 23 countries, visited in 9 more worked in 49 states and experienced so many different cultures in my lifetime. Now as I near my 87th year watching these spoiled, rotten, kids rebel at the urging of the “lazy ass” professors who hide behind tenure rather than results makes me sick.

The real shame is the parents who fail to teach honesty, obedience and manners to their spoiled brats. Pity the poor teachers who have to deal with these snot nosed misfits nine months a year. Call me old fashioned, call me a Grinch but don’t call me a failure for a large extended family. Ninety percent of my family are well prepared for life, Ten percent will never enjoy life like I have and I doubt that they will ever live to be 87 years old. Time will tell.  C Brewer

THE GAME OF CHICKEN!

The phrase game of chicken is used as a metaphor for a situation where two parties engage in a showdown where they have nothing to gain and only pride stops them from backing down.

When I was a boy over 70 years ago I was introduced to the game of chicken. With little money for entertainment the neighborhood children dreamed up things to entertain each other. This was a time when we had parents that made sure we did not annoy other people, destroy their property or maim and kill them like we read about in Chicago and other Democratic inner city bastions.

Our juvenile game of chicken was for two of us to go to opposite ends of the dirt street, mount our bicycles and peddle as fast as possible towards each other. The one who swerved away to avoid a head on collision was declared the “Chicken” and shunned by the other kids watching. Obviously if one did not chicken out you had two banged up bicycles and two kids rewarded with peer esteem and the need for bandages and bike repair. Both usually administered by the other kids.

Wikipedia describes the adult version as being; “Two drivers of cars on a single lane bridge from opposite directions. The first to swerve away yields the bridge to the other. If neither player swerves, the result is a costly deadlock in the middle of the bridge, or a potentially fatal head-on collision. It is presumed that the best thing for each driver is to stay straight while the other swerves (since the other is the “chicken” while a crash is avoided). Additionally, a crash is presumed to be the worst outcome for both players. This yields a situation where each player, in attempting to secure his best outcome, risks the worst.”

We watched President Kennedy win a game of Chicken with the Russians in Cuba and win. We watched Lyndon Johnson lose a game of Chicken with the Vietnamese. Reagan won again over the Russians at the Berlin wall. Bush #1 and #2 believe they won in Iraq. It is a no brainer that Bush #2 and Obama will lose in Afghanistan as political wars are not winnable.

We are now watching a President who was born and bred to take the game of “CHICKEN” to a new level. He has decided to divide America into two teams and arm one team with a decided advantage. All of the government resources will be provided to one team and the other team will only have God and each other to play the game.

We now have the Blue States on one end of the bridge and the Red States on the other end preparing for a for a Civil war version of the Chicken game. Leaders Obama, Polosi and Reed for the Blue States and Boehner and Mitchell representing only some of the Red States.

Obama has proved that he can rally 95% of the African-Americans, 98% of the academic leaders, 100% of the dead, and a majority of women and illegal aliens into a fighting force as he won re-election. Fraud could have helped but as he controls the Justice Department and we will never know.

The Red State team is not well-organized and proved that during the last election

One thing in this game of Chicken that is different is who will be hurt the most when we have a head on collision that must happen someday. America will obviously lose this game of Chicken as no other country is involved. There can’t be a winner, as regardless of the outcome, we will be much weaker both militarily and financially.

The real losers will be the youth, the women and the aliens. The dead have nothing to lose and the politicians will eventually be reduced in rank to just ordinary Americans like they were in the past.

God help the young Americans, some unborn, in finding a way to pay for this political ego trip that is so totally avoidable if we just had leaders in Washington rather that con men. God bless Ronald Reagan, our last American Leader. I feel pretty sure that Reagan and Mickey Mouse’s vote in California last November were for Obama.

I certainly hope that the voters, who wanted to see this “Chicken Train Wreck” happen, will be happy working for the Chinese. Unless common sense is applied soon, they will own all of our assets eventually.

OBAMA’S WAR -PART TWO

One of my friends, Ron Jenkins, neighbors sent this to him. It was deeply motivated to post this message. C Brewer

It is compelling and bodes not well for our President in November’s election, at least not amongst a certain segment of the population.  And, no, he doesn’t purport to speak for all military services or retiree’s; no one could or should do that.

The following was written by one of my former students. When I knew him, he was sixteen years old. I lost track of him when I left Virginia in 1966, but I never forgot him, and I always wondered if his name was on that black, granite wall in Washington, DC.  I found him a couple of years ago, thanks to Face Book and when we reconnected, he told me about his service in Vietnam and about all the boys I had taught, who came home in body bags.

This is not something that has been forwarded over and over but something that Bob wrote on the afternoon of Sept 14th.  He comes from a long line of military men who served their country and were proud to do so. Now his son is scheduled to go to Afghanistan in a few months. His niece will leave in a few weeks. I promised him I would forward it. I owe him and all those other kids, that much. It’s the least I can do.

He writes:

More than 1,000 American soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan in the last 27 months. This is more than the combined total of the nine years before.

Thirty have died in August.

The commander in chief is AWOL. Not a peep, although he ordered the White House flag flown at half-mast for some of the local Sihks that were killed by the Taliban insurgents.

There is a deep disgust, a fury, growing in the ranks of the military against the indifferent incompetence of this president. It has taken on a dangerous tone.

No one knows what to do about him, but the anger runs deep as the deaths continue with no strategic end in sight to the idiocy of this war.

Obama has had 4 years to end this futile insanity, during which time he has vacationed, golfed, campaigned, and generally ignored the plight of our men and women in uniform.

But, there is now a movement afoot in the armed services to launch a massive get out the vote drive against this president. Not just current active duty types, but the National Guard, Reserves, the retired, and all other prior service members.

This is no small special interest group, but many millions of veterans who can have an enormous impact on the outcome of the November election if they all respond. The million military retirees in Florida alone could mean an overwhelming victory in that state if they all show up at the polls.

It might not keep another one hundred U.S. troops from dying between now and November, but a turn out to vote by the military against this heart breaking lack of leadership can make a powerful statement that hastens a change to the indifference of this man who just lets our soldiers die.

Thanks Ron

THE NEXT WAR ON FREEDOM IS UNDERWAY

I hope that everyone who reads this stunning article will send it to every freedom loving American they know. Unless you have your head in the sand or inserted in the lowest opening in your body, you will realize how factual this scenario will destroy our Republic. Wake up folks the anarchy is underway, so do something to help stop the madness.  C Brewer

Capitalism and Marxism Are Headed for a Violent Showdown

by Chriss W. Street

Social liberals are extremely frustrated that the “worker’s paradise” that seemed so near three years ago, is fast slipping away due to voter rejection. With the huge borrowing and spending stimulus failing to revitalize the economy, social liberals took to the streets in Occupy Wall Street movements around the country. But the movement is rapidly being taken over by vicious Marxist elements bent on over-throwing capitalism with violent revolution, called “Black Bloc”.

In 2008, candidate Barack Obama campaigned in Germany and France to trumpet that America would soon bond with Europe and “Together, we must forge trade that truly rewards the work that creates wealth.” These are code words for America is embracing Europe’s collectivist march. Over the next two years, the President and his veto proof Congress legislated for the collectivization of healthcare, socialization of financial services, bail-out the unionized auto industry, and unbounded arrays of new regulatory constraints to fundamentally transform the U.S. economy. In solidarity: the United Nations designated October, 31, 2011 as the beginning of the International Year of the Cooperative to celebrate “the beginnings of a genuine discussion and debate about different economic models —models that value fairness at their core”.

The breadth of socialist ambition and the failure of massive borrow and spend initiatives to deliver economic recovery led to spontaneous rise of the Tea Part movement in America and an epic rejection of social liberal policies at the polls in 2010. Following that electoral shellacking, a broad spectrum of pundits urged President Obama in the words of Politico to: “move to the center to find common ground with the GOP and adopt the “triangulation” strategy employed by Bill Clinton” after his 1994 midterm losses.”

Social liberals have howled this year at what they see as the President lurch to the political center as selling out their core values. Bent on creating their own spontaneous movement; social liberals quickly latched onto the Occupy Wall Street movement. Over $500,000 in donations poured in as labor unions and elected officials embraced the movement. Marches and occupations sprung up nationwide to serve as a national microphone for the cause.

But within the movement, a cadre of hard core Marxists, seeking violence to achieve their goals, has increasingly taking control of governance of Occupy locations across America. In celebration of anarchist tactics of wearing black clothing, scarves, ski masks, motorcycle helmets and other face-concealing items and carry shields and truncheons to vandalize property; these “The Black Bloc” revolutionaries were on violent display in the Occupy Oakland riot last week. .

Occupy locations around the nation have set-up General Assemblies (“GA”) for governance of their communes. The Black Bloc disproportionately influence decisions made at the GAs, since the majority of the Occupy participants only show up for demonstrations; while the Black Bloc is a much more dominant proportion of the group that camps overnight on a consistent basis.

Occupy internet sites and forums make the anarchist justification: “destruction of property is not violence”. Some are arguing that since this movement is nascent, now is not the time for violence since it would alienate the mainstream – but that they would support its use once events have advanced sufficiently.” Even those who disagree with the use of violence and vandalism are unwilling to oppose or condemn Black Bloc; since that would be siding with “the enemy”. But there is real outrage for demonstrators labeled the “peace police”, for failing to respect “diversity of tactics”, who tried stop Black Bloc’s trashing of Whole Foods Market. The “coded idea is that if you are against destruction of property, you are aligning with those of privilege.”

In mid-October, a Time magazine national poll found: “Occupy movement has a 54 percent favorable rating; the Tea Party’s rating is 27 percent.” But after the vandalism in Oakland and reported rapes at Occupy encampments in New York, Dallas, Cleveland and Baltimore; 33% of Likely U.S. Voters hold a favorable view of the protesters, while 43% regard them unfavorably

Cold weather may slow Black Bloc down, but come spring these Marxist will go into overdrive. Last week Occupy Wall Street protesters gave a warm welcome to Alex Callinicos, professor of European Studies at King’s College in London, self-proclaimed Marxist, and author of: “The Anti-Capitalist Manifesto”. Asked if the upcoming revolution can be non-violent he responded violence could only be avoided if the: “1 percent accept the decisions of the 99 percent,’’ which he predicted would never happen. The growing Black Bloc violence is clearly meant to communicate that Occupy protests are not just against the top 1% anymore; they are against capitalism and the interests of the broad middle class.

FREEDOM- A “RIGHT” ALL AMERICANS SHOULD UNDERSTAND

I received the following message from a friend and decided to post it on my blog. It would be nice if everyone that reads this would pass it on to every American alive. I lost my only brother as a result of this war. I wish that he and all of the other American military who suffered the anguish and humiliation during this sad period in our history could see that we did accomplish something wonderful. It would be nice to see all Americans understand what freedom really means and the suffering it takes to protect our way of life. Unfortunately the leadership in America today is slowly destroying the dreams of those who created the most successful Republic in all of mans history.  C Brewer

HOW ONE IMMIGRANT APPRECIATES AMERICA

Last year the town of Prescott Valley, AZ, hosted a Freedom Rally. Quang Nguyen was asked to speak on his experience of coming to America and what it means.  He spoke the following in dedication to all Vietnam Veterans. Most will enjoy what he had to say.

SPEECH

“35 years ago, if you were to tell me that I am going to stand up here speaking to a couple thousand patriots, in English, I’d laugh at you.  Man, every morning I wake up thanking God for putting me and my family in the greatest country on earth….. America.

I just want you all to know that the American dream does exist and I am living the American dream.  I was asked to speak to you about my experience as a first generation Vietnamese- American, but I’d rather speak to you as an American.

If you hadn’t noticed, I am not white and I feel pretty comfortable with my people.

I am a proud US citizen and here is my proof:  It took me 8 years to get it, waiting in endless lines, but I got it and I am very proud of it.

I still remember the images of the Tet offensive in 1968, I was six years old.  Now you might want to question how a 6-year-old boy could remember anything.  Trust me, those images can never be erased.  I can’t even imagine what it was like for young American soldiers, 10,000 miles away from home, fighting on my behalf.

35 years ago, I left South Vietnam for political asylum.  The war had ended.  At the age of 13, I left with the understanding that I may or may not ever get to see my siblings or parents again.  I was one of the first lucky 100,000 Vietnamese allowed to come to the US.  Somehow, my family and I were reunited 5 months later, amazingly, in California.  It was a miracle from God.

If you haven’t heard lately that this is the greatest country on earth, I am telling you that right now.  It was the freedom and the opportunities presented to me that put me here with all of you tonight.  I also remember the barriers that I had to overcome every step of the way.  My high school counselor told me that I cannot make it to college due to my poor communication skills.  I proved him wrong.  I finished college.  You see, all you have to do is to give this little boy an opportunity and encourage him to take and run with it.  Well, I took the opportunity and here I am.

This person standing tonight in front of you could not exist under a socialist/communist environment.  By the way, if you think socialism is the way to go, I am sure many people here will chip in to get you a one-way ticket out of here.  And if you didn’t know, the only difference between socialism and communism is an AK-47 aimed at your head.  That was my experience.

In 1982, I stood with a thousand new immigrants, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and listening to the National Anthem for the first time as an American.  To this day, I can’t remember anything sweeter and more patriotic than that moment in my life.

Fast forwarding, somehow I finished high school, finished college, and like any other goofball 21 year old kid, I was having a great time with my life.  I had a nice job and a nice apartment in Southern California.  In someway and somehow, I had forgotten how I got here and why I was here.

One day I was at a gas station, I saw a veteran pumping gas on the other side of the island.  I don’t know what made me do it, but I walked over and asked if he had served in Vietnam.  He smiled and said yes.  I shook and held his hand.  The grown man began to well up.  I walked away as fast as I could and at that very moment, I was emotionally rocked.  This was a profound moment in my life.  I knew something had to change in my life.  It was time for me to learn how to be a good citizen.  It was time for me to give back.

You see, America is not a place on the map.  It isn’t a physical location.  It is an ideal, a concept.  And if you are an American, you must understand the concept, you must buy into this concept, and most importantly, you have to fight and defend this concept.  This is about Freedom and NOT free stuff.  And that is why I am standing up here.

Brothers and sisters, to be a real American, the very least you must do is to learn English and understand it well.  In my humble opinion, you cannot be a faithful patriotic citizen if you can’t speak the language of the country you live in.  Take this document of 46 pages – last I looked on the Internet, there wasn’t a Vietnamese translation of the US Constitution. It took me a long time to get to the point of being able to converse and until this day, I still struggle to come up with the right words.  It’s not easy, but if it’s too easy, it’s not worth doing.

Before I knew this 46-page document, I learned of the 500,000 Americans who fought for this little boy.  I learned of the 58,000 names inscribed on the black wall at the Vietnam Memorial.  You are my heroes.  You are my founders.

At this time, I would like to ask all the Vietnam veterans to please stand.  I thank you for my life.  I thank you for your sacrifices, and I thank you for giving me the freedom and liberty I have today.  I now ask all veterans, firefighters, and police officers, to please stand.  On behalf of all first generation immigrants, I thank you for your services and may God bless you all”.

QUANG NGUYEN

Please take note he never used the term Vietnamese American. If all other naturalized citizens would just become “Americans” the resentment would subside. If they continue to demand that we change our history and our way of life we will never have harmony. If they can’t adjust then why did they come other than to overthrow our government?    C. Brewer

DEMOCRACY VERSUS A CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC-HOW MANY KNOW THE DIFFERENCE?

Ignorance of history and  80 years of watching “Progressives” change America, I always thought I lived in a democracy. My life has provided me opportunity to visit 32 countries and 49 states. This included countries controlled by Kings, Dictators, Socialist, Communist and some I never really knew the controlling interest. I have witnessed a variety of US Presidents, including our current President, lead us to control the destiny of other nations via war, bribery, extortion, insurrection and other ways to encourage democracy. Another puzzeling fact is that we never recommend that anyone create a Constitutional Republic. This is what made America the envy of the world even though most Americans are unaware of the difference.

Over the past year I have finally discovered that there are major differences between a “Democracy” and a “Constitutional Republic”. I encourage every freedom loving American to take the time to understand the differences. America’s founders certainly understood the differences when they developed our Constitution and original Bill of Rights. Over the next two hundred years “Progressives” have chiseled away our freedoms by slowly amending and challenging our Republic. We are closer to changing our Constitutional Republic into a Socialist Democracy than the average American can believe.

I have witnessed the creation of a welfare dependent populace that has multiplied dramatically since my boyhood in the 1930s. Instead of working we now have a massive group of underprivileged that are paid “NOT” to work. In the 1930’s they at least did something to earn basic shelter and food. Charity and the churches took care of the ones incapable of working. Paying these people to not work created a need for someone else to do what is called menial jobs. Now we have and are witnessing the creation of another mass of aliens who totally depend on our progressive government to make sure they have work. These progressive changes have resulted in the primary reason we have watched the best healthcare program in the world be destroyed with biased unfunded demands. The same is true for the wealth sharing food assistance programs.  I do not need to discuss the explosion of the size of our government workforce, even the biased main stream media expose the waste of big government, occasionally.

How many of you are familiar with the trends that you are watching as all three branches of our government have become totally politicized? Look at the 5-4 Supreme Court decisions that occur on nearly every decision that is rendered. If you do not see the political bias when we have that difference on how to read the Constitution, you are part of the transition to a Socialist Democracy. Do you realize that when the Progressives achieve having more than 50% of the voters working for or being subservient to the government to provide for them with “ACLU Rights”, we will have a one party government and the death of our Republic? This is a result of both republican and democratic progressive Presidents.

The article that I have included as a link will hopefully wake up enough people to get involved. My reason for writing this article is to hopefully protect my heirs rights to freedom long after I depart. Sadly I have some of these Progressives in my family. Trying to awaken them is as futile as watching our “conservative leadership” in Washington trying to wield power and then self-destruct every time they have the opportunity to slow down the progressive train wreck of the Republic.

Please read the following article and I would appreciate your comments to this posting.  C Brewer

STOP THE MADNESS

I hope you will share this with eveyone you know. Our young people have no idea what freedom is worth. The time to stop our government from changing our Republic is now.  CWB

Truly is the Greatest Country in the World. Don’t Let Freedom Slip Away

By: Kitty Werthmann
What I am about to tell you is something you’ve probably never heard or will ever read in history books.

I believe that I am an eyewitness to history.  I cannot tell you that Hitler took Austria by tanks and guns; it would distort history.  We elected him by a landslide – 98% of the vote.  I’ve never read that in any American publications.  Everyone thinks that Hitler just rolled in with his tanks and took Austria by force.

In 1938, Austria was in deep Depression.  Nearly one-third of our workforce was unemployed.  We had 25% inflation and 25% bank loan interest rates.  Farmers and business people were declaring bankruptcy daily.  Young people were going from house to house begging for food.  Not that they didn’t want to work; there simply weren’t any jobs.  My mother was a Christian woman and believed in helping people in need.  Every day we cooked a big kettle of soup and baked bread to feed those poor, hungry people – about 30 daily.
The Communist Party and the National Socialist Party were fighting each other.  Blocks and blocks of cities like Vienna , Linz , and Graz were destroyed.  The people became desperate and petitioned the government to let them decide what kind of government they wanted.
We looked to our neighbor on the north, Germany , where Hitler had been in power since 1933.  We had been told that they didn’t have unemployment or crime, and they had a high standard of living.  Nothing was ever said about persecution of any group — Jewish or otherwise.  We were led to believe that everyone was happy.  We wanted the same way of life in Austria . We were promised that a vote for Hitler would mean the end of unemployment and help for the family.  Hitler also said that businesses would be assisted, and farmers would get their farms back.  Ninety-eight percent of the population voted to annex Austria to Germany and have Hitler for our ruler.
We were overjoyed, and for three days we danced in the streets and had candlelight parades.  The new government opened up big field kitchens and everyone was fed.
After the election, German officials were appointed, and like a miracle, we suddenly had law and order.  Three or four weeks later, everyone was employed.  The government made sure that a lot of work was created through the Public Work Service.

Hitler decided we should have equal rights for women.  Before this, it was a custom that married Austrian women did not work outside the home.  An able-bodied husband would be looked down on if he couldn’t support his family.  Many women in the teaching profession were elated that they could retain the jobs they previously had been required to give up for marriage.

Our education was nationalized.  I attended a very good public school.  The population was predominantly Catholic, so we had religion in our schools. The day we elected Hitler (March 13, 1938), I walked into my schoolroom to find the crucifix replaced by Hitler ‘s picture hanging next to a Nazi flag.  Our teacher, a very devout woman, stood up and told the class we wouldn’t pray or have religion anymore.  Instead, we sang “Deutschland, Deutschland, Uber Alles ,” and had physical education.

Sunday became National Youth Day with compulsory attendance.  Parents were not pleased about the sudden change in curriculum.  They were told that if they did not send us, they would receive a stiff letter of warning the first time.  The second time they would be fined the equivalent of $300, and the third time they would be subject to jail.  The first two hours consisted of political indoctrination.  The rest of the day we had sports.  As time went along, we loved it.  Oh, we had so much fun and got our sports equipment free.  We would go home and gleefully tell our parents about the wonderful time we had.
My mother was very unhappy.  When the next term started, she took me out of public school and put me in a convent.  I told her she couldn’t do that and she told me that someday when I grew up, I would be grateful.  There was a very good curriculum, but hardly any fun – no sports, and no political indoctrination.  I hated it at first but felt I could tolerate it.  Every once in a while, on holidays, I went home.  I would go back to my old friends and ask what was going on and what they were doing.  Their loose lifestyle was very alarming to me.  They lived without religion.  By that time unwed mothers were glorified for having a baby for Hitler .  It seemed strange to me that our society changed so suddenly.  As time went along, I realized what a great deed my mother did so that I wasn’t exposed to that kind of humanistic philosophy.
Equal Rights Hits Home:

In 1939, the war started and a food bank was established.  All food was rationed and could only be purchased using food stamps.  At the same time, a full-employment law was passed which meant if you didn’t work, you didn’t get a ration card, and if you didn’t have a card, you starved to death. Women who stayed home to raise their families didn’t have any marketable skills and often had to take jobs more suited for men.  Soon after this, the draft was implemented.  It was compulsory for young people, male and female, to give one year to the labor corps.  During the day, the girls worked on the farms, and at night they returned to their barracks for military training just like the boys.  They were trained to be anti-aircraft gunners and participated in the signal corps.  After the labor corps, they were not discharged but were used in the front lines.  When I go back to Austria to visit my family and friends, most of these women are emotional cripples because they just were not equipped to handle the horrors of combat.  Three months before I turned 18, I was severely injured in an air raid attack.  I nearly had a leg amputated, so I was spared having to go into the labor corps and into military service.
Hitler Restructured the Family Through Daycare:

When the mothers had to go out into the work force, the government immediately established child care centers.  You could take your children ages 4 weeks to school age and leave them there around-the-clock, 7 days a week, under the total care of the government.  The state raised a whole generation of children.  There were no motherly women to take care of the children, just people highly trained in child psychology.  By this time, no one talked about equal rights.  We knew we had been had.
Health Care and Small Business Suffer Under Government Controls:

Before Hitler , we had very good medical care.  Many American doctors trained at the University of Vienna .  After Hitler , health care was socialized, free for everyone.  Doctors were salaried by the government.  The problem was, since it was free, the people were going to the doctors for everything. When the good doctor arrived at his office at 8 a.m., 40 people were already waiting and, at the same time, the hospitals were full.  If you needed elective surgery, you had to wait a year or two for your turn.  There was no money for research as it was poured into socialized medicine.  Research at the medical schools literally stopped, so the best doctors left Austria and emigrated to other countries.

As for healthcare, our tax rates went up to 80% of our income.  Newlyweds immediately received a $1,000 loan from the government to establish a household.  We had big programs for families.  All day care and education were free.  High schools were taken over by the government and college tuition was subsidized.  Everyone was entitled to free handouts, such as food stamps, clothing, and housing.  We had another agency designed to monitor business.  My brother-in-law owned a restaurant that had square tables.  Government officials told him he had to replace them with round tables because people might bump themselves on the corners.  Then they said he had to have additional bathroom facilities. It was just a small dairy business with a snack bar.  He couldn’t meet all the demands.  Soon, he went out of business.  If the government owned the large businesses and not many small ones existed, it could be in control.
We had consumer protection.  We were told how to shop and what to buy.  Free enterprise was essentially abolished.  We had a planning agency specially designed for farmers.  The agents would go to the farms, count the live-stock, then tell the farmers what to produce, and how to produce it.
“Mercy Killing” Redefined:

In 1944, I was a student teacher in a small village in the Alps.  The villagers were surrounded by mountain passes which, in the winter, were closed off with snow, causing people to be isolated.  So people intermarried and offspring were sometimes retarded.  When I arrived, I was told there were 15 mentally retarded adults, but they were all useful and did good manual work.  I knew one, named Vincent , very well.  He was a janitor of the school.  One day I looked out the window and saw Vincent and others getting into a van.  I asked my superior where they were going.  She said to an institution where the State Health Department would teach them a trade, and to read and write.  The families were required to sign papers with a little clause that they could not visit for 6 months.  They were told visits would interfere with the program and might cause homesickness.  As time passed, letters started to dribble back saying these people died a natural, merciful death.  The villagers were not fooled.  We suspected what was happening.  Those people left in excellent physical health and all died within 6 months.  We called this euthanasia.
The Final Steps – Gun Laws:
Next came gun registration.. People were getting injured by guns.  Hitler said that the real way to catch criminals (we still had a few) was by matching serial numbers on guns.  Most citizens were law abiding and dutifully marched to the police station to register their firearms.  Not long after-wards, the police said that it was best for everyone to turn in their guns.  The authorities already knew who had them, so it was futile not to comply voluntarily.
No more freedom of speech. Anyone who said something against the government was taken away.  We knew many people who were arrested, not only Jews, but also priests and ministers who spoke up.
Totalitarianism didn’t come quickly, it took 5 years from 1938 until 1943, to realize full dictatorship in Austria . Had it happened overnight, my countrymen would have fought to the last breath.  Instead, we had creeping gradualism.  Now, our only weapons were broom handles.  The whole idea sounds almost unbelievable that the state, little by little eroded our freedom.
After World War II, Russian troops occupied Austria .  Women were raped, preteen to elderly.  The press never wrote about this either.  When the Soviets left in 1955, they took everything that they could, dismantling whole factories in the process.  They sawed down whole orchards of fruit, and what they couldn’t destroy, they burned.  We called it The Burned Earth. Most of the population barricaded themselves in their houses.  Women hid in their cellars for 6 weeks as the troops mobilized.  Those who couldn’t, paid the price.  There is a monument in Vienna today, dedicated to those women who were massacred by the Russians.  This is an eye witness account.
