“College Student: My Generation Is Blind to the Prosperity Around Us”.

  • My old golfing friend, Jim Heck, sent me this observation written by a young lady who can see beyond the end of her nose. I was privileged to visit or work in 32 countries, Kingdoms, Socialists, Buddhists, Communists or some mixed form of Government. I spent some 16 years, over four million flying miles and about 2200 nights in hotels in my work/pleasure travel and over my 89 years. I also worked or vacationed in forty-nine US States.
  •
  • Far too many Americans have become expectant that they deserve to live with the rest of us paying for their every need. I would like to share one conservation I had while consulting with a client in Indonesia some 30 years ago. I ask him why they had not used available industry equipment to modernize the movement of heavy equipment instead of methods requiring excessive manpower? His response was, “In Indonesia, we have “NO” social programs like your Social Security program. We either work or do without. Our objective is to find work for everyone and they take care of the afflicted and older themselves. Please read this and pray America will awaken again instead of committing suicide.  C Brewer

  • An interesting article was written by a college student named Alyssa Ahlgren, who’s in grad school for her MBA,
  • who is having trouble trying to understand why folks of her age do not appreciate their positions in life.  Definitely worth a read!

  • “College Student: My Generation Is Blind to the Prosperity Around Us
  •
  • I’m sitting in a small coffee shop near Nokomis trying to think of what to write about. I scroll through my newsfeed on my phone looking at the latest headlines of Democratic candidates calling for policies to “fix” the so-called injustices of capitalism. I  put my phone down and continue to look around. I see people talking freely, working on their MacBook’s, ordering the food they get in an instant, seeing cars go by outside, and it dawned on me. We live in the most privileged time in the most prosperous nation and we’ve become completely blind to it. Vehicles, food, technology, freedom to associate with whom we choose. These things are so ingrained in our American way of life we don’t give them a second thought. We are so well off here in the United States that our poverty line begins 31 times above the global average. Thirty. One. Times. Virtually no one in the United States is considered poor by global standards. Yet, in a time where we can order a product off Amazon with one click and have it at our doorstep the next day, we are unappreciative, unsatisfied, and ungrateful.
  •
  • Our unappreciation is evident as the popularity of socialist policies among my generation continues to grow. Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently said to Newsweek talking about the millennial generation, “An entire generation, which is now becoming one of the largest electorates in America, came of age and never saw American prosperity.”
  •
  • Never saw American prosperity! Let that sink in. When I first read that statement, I thought to myself, that was quite literally the most entitled and factually illiterate thing I’ve ever heard in my 26 years on this earth. Many young people agree with her, which is entirely misguided. My generation is being indoctrinated by a mainstream narrative to actually believe we have never seen prosperity. I know this first hand, I went to college, let’s just say I didn’t have the popular opinion, but I distress.
  •
  • Why then, with all of the overwhelming evidence around us, evidence that I can even see sitting at a coffee shop, do we not view this as prosperity? We have people who are dying to get into our country. People around the world destitute and truly impoverished. Yet, we have a young generation convinced they’ve never seen prosperity, and as a result, elect politicians dead set on taking steps towards abolishing capitalism. Why? The answer is this, my generation has only seen prosperity. We have no contrast. We didn’t live in the great depression or live through two world wars, the Korean War, The Vietnam War or see the rise and fall of socialism and communism. We don’t know what it’s like to live without the internet, without cars, without smartphones. We don’t have a lack of prosperity problem. We have an entitlement problem, an ungratefulness problem, and it’s spreading like a plague.”

FROM FAILURE TO WORSE?

One week ago, I celebrated my 89th birthday. Looking back on my life America has suffered the Great Depression; Franklin Roosevelt; World War 11; women working; Korean War; J Edward Hoover; the Viet Nam fiasco that cost us 60,000 young Ameriicans; Fighting Muslims and another few thousand young Americans die in vain. We never hear how many Muslims we have sent to see Allah and collect their 72 Virgins. The 1960ś introduced us to a downhill slide that has slowly carried us through Clinton, Bush II and Obama. In the eight years before Trump the downhill slide became a roller coaster, managed by the biggest Fakir in the history of the world, Barack Obama. Politics has excited me twice in my lifetime. The first was the election of Ronald Reagan and the second has been Donald Trump. The reason was that they had not been influenced as government employees all of their lives.

Sadly we are now erasing history from our educational systems for one sad reason, to hide facts from our future citizens. Ignoring the wrath of the Great Depression will hide forever one of the saddest times in our history. I have shared my remembrances with younger family and friends who do not believe that those bad times never happened. Our educators today just wish to avoid the truth and hope the scars of this era will go away forever. It was one of the most horrible times in our lives. These miserable times in my life will never be erased and some historians will use facts to wake up the people if we continue to have at least one news network that reports the truth.

Today we have news twisted to support a pack of lies with garbage to excite the mylineals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our higher education institutions are loaded with tenured professors who warp and twist the minds of our youth about Socialism, and worse. Our House of Representatives, manipulated by Nancy Pelosi and her pack of thieves with only one agenda, Impeach Trump for trying to make Americans like other Americans. I am so sick of the way Demoncrats desire to have Americans kill each other so lawlessness becomes an accepted way of life in America. Why has travel to Chicago diminished, could it be their record number of Americans killing Americans?

As of this day, September 8, 2019, I will admit to currently having 56 members in my family. This includes kids, grandkids, great grandkids, great great grandkids which includes spouses. Not all of them would admit that I am their father, grandfather, great grandfather or great great grandfather. Sadly the reason for the drifting apart of my family is politics. My oldest granddaughter is running for Congress as a Democrat in Travis County. I will never let politics interfere with family but sadly there is no two way street. I sincerely hope my Granddaughter wins a seat in Congress and maybe she will be her own self? I pray she has no desire to try Socialism as Lawyers are supposed to study any event to decide what is the best way. She is a successful Attorney married to another successful Attorney. Since they swore to an oath to abide by Constitutional law, I feel must support her, and I will. I hope I live to see pictures of her swearing in in 2021, I doubt I would be invited to watch.

The biggest separations have been created because of the brainwashing they all received in Colleges and Universities as the liberal, Progressive Demoncrats race to change our government from a Democratic Republic to some  Democratic Socialists form of politics, or worse.

The freedoms that will be lost will likely never return. The United States will go the way of the most recent path of Venezuela. Once the richest country in South America, now the poorest. Why?, Socialism. Someday read why this happened and who ended up with the riches.

Should the Demoncrats win back the Senate and the Presidency next year my excitement will die and I probably will too. I do hope to make 90 and know if America has a chance to reverse itself to help the people instead of the politicians.

AMERICA HAS LOST ITS FREEDOM FOCUS!

I have been through two knee replacements, a Pacemaker implanted and making sure my wife is properly cared for during the last 13 months. This has limited my time to write as caring for my wife has demanded care as she has no short term memory suffering from Dementia.

For those who are not familiar with my background, I will share some facts to gain your interest and hopefully more actions to wake up the people. I am retired from Mensa that accepted me to have intelligence with the top two percent of all people and Intertel which is the top one percent proven by testing.

I also have had the opportunity to observe Muslim people on two continents with work projects that lasted several years. I have worked in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, Scandinavia, Australia, far East, Mexico, Canada, and forty-nine States. This took me to Socialist/Monarchy, Socialists, Monarchies, Kingdoms, Buddhists as well as Muslim and Christian countries. I have owned business interest by starting or helping to start nine businesses in four countries.

As a boy of seventeen, I enlisted in the US Navy and spent three and a half years on active duty during the Korean war and five years of total service. Twenty-seven years with Lockheed-Martin, five years with Halliburton and eleven years in businesses I owned or owned part of discussed previously. With a partner, we trained over 40,000 people in System Auditing and how to comply with government standards worldwide. I have a Masters Degree in Business Operations and a Registered Professional Engineer.

I did not take you through so many involvements except to share the windows of the world I have had time to observe. This is related to the different forms of government and the highlights of comparing the different freedoms of people in the different parts of our World.

I will hopefully reach the age of 90 in 2020. I have lived through the Great Depression, World War Two, the Korean War, the radical changes due to WWll, the start of a downhill slide in our lives that has another radical movement racing towards a Socialists form of government. If you ask the younger people who have been brainwashed by the worst group of cowards ever assembled to explain why they desire this radical movement they become mute.

The army of Communists Professors having tenure protection have done more harm to our freedoms and erase the history of the thousands of Americans who have died protecting our rights. Most of the recent Congresspersons who have been spouting hate have no idea what this country desires. Even they have no idea what Socialism represents and the move to have a central government that will have total control over their lives.

I have watched our Congresses for 70 years actually change from being public servants to spending their entire life fighting to amass fortunes and being re-elected by people they actually oppress with ̈Gimmie Something ̈. They have restructured a public service into an occupation, why?. Most are lawyers who can ́t make a living lawyering.

My oldest granddaughter, a fantastic mother, a great wife, and a successful lawyer, happily married to a successful lawyer is currently running for Congress. Sadly for me, she is running as a Democrat. I have never questioned her reasons as she has never set foot in our home for the last 27 years or even ask me why I am a Conservative. I hope she wins but I worry about keeping a family together living in two different states. It would thrill me to discuss differences but it would probably just drive us further apart. The part I will never understand is why our Congress is controlled by lawyers in both parties.

A deeper question that really bothers me is how I have watched every Supreme Court decision in my life change from an interpretation of our Constitution and laws to a political vote instead of a vote of our laws. This leads me to believe our law schools must teach lawyers how to vote as a Democrat or a Republican.

America has been the most successful country to survive for all of these years by allowing us to be free. We have fought and won many wars, including our own civil war that cost so many young lives over freedom for our slaves. We opened our country to immigrants who accepted our laws and integrated into American citizens until the massive invasion of Mexicans who refuse to become Americans. The massive invasion of people from all over the world keeps increasing the stress of processing aliens who just ignore our laws. These lawbreakers are fully supported by the current Democratic party. Los Angeles has become an open sewer with illegals sleeping on the streets.

Every time the Democrats gain power they push to open our borders to people who have no intention of following the laws, why? History is supported by the facts that poorer people always support the Democratic party who keeps them poor but they vote like sheep who are fed by the Democrats free of costs. These people have never been free but amass to rake in the ̈Freebies ̈. A few years ago I had an accident with a woman who had three children in the back seat of a brand new pickup. She could not speak a word in English but had a Texas drivers license. Even in our small town of Hemphill and county of Sabine, we have a weekly newspaper. Any public notice printed in the Reporter must be published in both English and Spanish. I doubt we have twenty-five people in the county who might have problems with English. When you think about a state with 254 counties and over 25 million people this one stupid requirement costs alone would stagger most people.

These last three years with Trump as our President has been spent with the Democrats hoping they can win the Presidency using the courts to overturn the vote of the people. Trump has eliminated enough regulations to let America become energy independent for the first time in a long time. He has had his arms tied by Judges all over the country. I hope I live long enough to see his second term when the riotous members of Congress who have blatantly impeded our safety and freedoms face the same pressure of facing jail time like the Clintons and others. Watching them being jailed for their wastes of time and millions for the past 50 years will be sweet for this old man.

I still get goosebumps listening to the Star-Spangled Banner and tear up when Taps is played. People who desecrate our flag should be jailed or exiled for life. I hope Trump agrees.

GOD BLESS AMERICA…………C BREWER JULY 27, 2019

WELCOME ABOARD TO MY FRIENDS.

Several years ago I received this message that impacted me to frame the words and display them where I could read them near my desk. Events of the past few years have included the demise of most of the friends I had and tonight I read this again. Nearing 90 and in sight of the station that will end my ride I decided to share this with everyone I know. I hope you will read this several times and when you see your last station to depart, share it with your family and friends. I have no idea who wrote this but they had to be one of the wisest people on earth.   Clyde Brewer July 4th, 2019

WELCOME ABOARD

At birth we boarded the train and met our parents, and we believe they will always travel on our side.

However, at each station Our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on our journey alone.

As time goes by, other people will board the train; and they will be significant i.e. our siblings, friends, children ,and even the love of your life.

Many will step down and leave a permanent vacuum.

Others will go unnoticed that we don’t realize they vacated their seats.

The train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells.

Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers requiring that we give the best of ourselves.

The mystery to everyone is: We do not know at which station we ourselves will step down.

So, we must live in the best way, love, forgive, and offer the best of who we are. It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life.

I wish you a joyful journey on the train of life. Reap success and give lots of love. More importantly, thank God for the journey.

Lastly, I thank you for being one of the passengers on my train.

(By the way, I am not planning to get off of the train anytime soon but if I do, just remember I am glad you were aboard for part of my journey.)  ANON

Sadly because of two marriages I have great grandchildren I have never met or will ever meet on my train ride of life. Currently I am unable to travel to spend time with 56 current family members, including spouses, with most of them being 3 to 5 hours away. Hopefully the ones I will never see will know I existed? God love them all and if they see as much of America and the world I have seen, their train ride will be spectacular.   Clyde Brewer

HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH??

POLITICS..POLITICS..POLITICS..POLITICS

Is anyone else sick and tired of watching Congresspersons make absolute fools of themselves. Two years of Mueller, Russian interference was enough to make Putin learn how to speak and understand English. Pelosi and Schumer have made Putin a hero.

Most of the 24/7 news before the Demoncrats won the majority of the House of Representatives was palatable. Now we have so many Demoncrats fighting to get facetime on CNN, MSNBC, and the biased news on the other networks it is sickening.

When we are waiting on the shoe to drop on the Clintons, Obamas, John Kerry and the buffoons who better know that we now have an Attorney General who has brass kahunas. The Demoncrats have started a focus on Barr who is so much smarter than the entire Demoncratic caucus in the House it is a laugher.

I am disappointed with President Trump for not stepping on these inept clowns by now. He has incited enough people to have the economy on a fast track. He has unemployment barely lower than the IQ of most Demoncrats who are creating a major meltdown of the monetary gains made the last two years. The burden being showered on the southern States with educational and healthcare increases that will wreck State treasuries as early as next year. The Demoncrats are racing to making fake identifications and swamping the future elections with foreign illegal voters.

In my 88 years I have watched the robbery increase to make our greatest right, honest voting, worthless. This started in areas where illegals gather like far south Texas. We watched LBJ steal a Senate seat with stuffed ballot boxes when I was a young man here in Texas.

It is time to make voting honest again. Stop the illegal invasion on our southern border and clean out the ¨Has Beens¨ in Congress. Only one thing will stop the thievery, term limits for all politicians from the local Courthouses to the halls of Congress.

At my age I will never see this happen but it would put a smile on my wrinkled face to see Trump re-elected, maybe drain some more of the swamp and fill our Federal prisons with these crooked power seekers who ignore the laws.

Please comment if you agree or disagree. Something must happen to allow my grandchildren the Constitutional freedoms I enjoyed most of my nearly 89 years. I will continue to voice my views as long as my two pointer fingers don´t wear out.

TWO QUESTIONS FOR ALL AMERICANS??

1. Do you believe that Muslim immigrants will ever comply with the US Constitution and Laws???

Ask any serviceman/woman or oil company employee, what they think about Muslims becoming American citizens.

Additionally, Muslims will never integrate into our society given we still have remnants of the Judeo Christian Ethic.

So, tell me why we have a noticeable numbers moving into our Government organizations.   Truly, “Stupid is as stupid does!” tolerance, and the lunacy of political correctness and head-in-the-sand ignoring of reality that is working to destroy our country as we know it.

A HISTORY LESSON WE SHOULD NEVER FORGET!!!

Eighty Four Percent of those who read this will probably not completely read it…if they read any of it at all.

Ten Percent will read it, but they will choose not to forward it on to others.

The remaining 6% most likely will forward it.

The War started in the 7th Century and lasted through the 17th Century. Many will contend it never stopped; the Facts below are Historically correct.

That is why many of us Choke when we hear someone say we will defeat or contain these Islamic Terrorists in a few Years, or even “30 Years” as has been stated by Leon Panetta. If the latest batch of Murders, Beheadings, and Killing of Innocent Christians has at all shocked you, it is time for you to read this Compilation of Historical Facts about the Intense Hatred that Muslims have for ANY and ALL who are “NOT” Muslims!

WE ARE THE STUPID.

In 732 A.D., the Muslim Army, which was moving on Paris, was Defeated and turned back at Tours, France, by Charles Martell.

In 1571 A.D., the Muslim Army/Navy was defeated by the Italians and Austrians as they tried to cross the Mediterranean to Attack Southern Europe in the Battle of Le Panto.

In 1683 A.D.,the Turkish Muslim Army, attacking Eastern Europe, was finally Defeated in the Battle of Vienna by German and Polish Christian Armies.

This Nonsense has been going on for 1,400 years!  The SAD thing is that more than half of all Politicians do not even know any of this. If these Battles had not been Won, we would most likely be speaking Arabic.

And Christianity could be Non-existent. Judaism certainly would NOT exist!

Reality check:

A lot of Americans have become so Insulated from Reality that they Imagine America can Suffer defeat without any Inconvenience to themselves.

Think:

The following events are true historical facts. It has been many years since 1968, but History keeps repeating itself.

In 1968, Robert Kennedy was Shot and Killed by a Muslim Male.

In 1972, at the Munich Olympics, Israeli Athletes were Kidnapped and Massacred by Muslim Males.

In 1972, a Pan Am 747 was Hijacked and eventually Diverted to Cairo where a Fuse was lit on Final Approach.

Shortly after Landing, it was Blown up by Muslim Males.

In 1973, a Pan Am 707 was Destroyed in Rome With 33 People Killed, when it was Attacked with Grenades by Muslim Males.

In 1979, the United States Embassy in Iran was taken over by Muslim Males.

During the 1980’s, a number of Americans were Kidnapped in Lebanon by Muslim Males.

!n 1983, the United States Marine Barracks in Beirut was Blown up by Muslim Males.

In 1985, the Cruise Ship Achilles-Lauro was Hijacked.   A 70-year-old American Passenger was Murdered and thrown Overboard in his Wheelchair by Muslim Males.

In 1985, TWA Flight 847 was Hijacked at Athens, a United States Navy Diver, who was trying to Rescue Passengers – was murdered by Muslim Males

In 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by Muslim Males.

In 1993, the World Trade Center was Bombed for the First Time by Muslim Males

In 1998, the United States Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were Bombed by Muslim Males.

On 09/11/01, FOUR Airliners were Hijacked. Two of the Planes were used as Missiles to take down the World Trade Centers. One Plane Crashed into the United States Pentagon, and the other Plane was Diverted and Crashed by the Passengers. Over three thousand People were Killed by Muslim Males.

In 2002, the United States fought a War in Afghanistan against Muslim Males.

n 2002, reporter Daniel Pearl was Kidnapped and Beheaded by you guessed it – a Muslim Male.

(Plus two other American Journalists who had just recently been Beheaded.)

In 2013, the Boston Marathon Bombing resulted in Four Innocent People, including a Child, being Killed and 264 other People injured by Muslim Males. NO, I really do not see a pattern here to Justify Profiling.  Do YOU?

So, to ensure we Americans never offend anyone – particularly fanatics intent on Killing US –

Airport Security Screeners will NO longer be allowed to Profile certain People. So, ask yourself: “Just how Stupid are we?!?!”

Have Americans completely lost their Minds or just their “Power of Reason?” As the writer of the Award Winning story “Forrest Gump” so aptly put it, “Stupid is as Stupid does.”

You now have the Opportunity to share this with as many Americans as possible then on to other Contacts.

2. Now do you believe that Muslim immigrants will ever comply with the US Constitution and Laws?

Did you get the same answer to question #2 that you had in question #1 ?? ANON

I have no idea who wrote this article and I will give credit if someone will tell me the author . I did make some minor changes ro use this on my Blog rather than by “E” Mail.

Do something or you can just sit back, keep complaining and do nothing.

As Barack Obama said in his book: “Nothing sounds as Beautiful as the Muslim Evening Prayers from the Tower.”

NOW, THINK ABOUT THE NUMBER OF MUSLIMS WHO BHO APPOINTED, NOW IN POLITICAL POSITIONS IN CONGRESS AND ACROSS THE U. S.

Thanks Ron. I set foot in Saudi Arabia in 1982, my first Muslim country. I spent 15 days about fifty feet from a Masque. I was able to stay away from my hotel except for the chanting over loudspeakers at 6 am every day. Unlike Obummer I found this annoying. The last time I set foot in a Muslim country, Indonesia, was in 1993 shortly before I retired. I worked or changed planes in seven other Muslim countries. They can’t be a Muslim and an American at the same time.  Clyde Brewer

CHILDREN OF THE GREATEST GENERATION.

IS YOUR BIRTHDAY SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 1922 AND 1942?  WELL, IF YES, YOU AND I WERE WITNESS TO THE GREATEST TIMES IN THE HISTORY OF MAN.  SO, READ THIS SLOWLY AND REALIZE JUST HOW PRIVILEGED WE’VE BEEN.

Born in the 1930s and early 40s, we exist as a very special age cohort. We are the Silent Generation.

We are the smallest number of children born since the early 1900s.  We are the “last ones.”

We are the last generation, climbing out of the depression, who can remember the winds of war and the impact of a world at war which rattled the structure of our daily lives for years.

We are the last to remember ration books for everything from gas to sugar to shoes to stoves.

We saved tin foil and poured fat into tin cans.

We saw cars up on blocks because tires weren’t available.

We can remember milk being delivered to our house early in the morning and placed in the milk box on the porch.

We are the last to see the gold stars in the front windows of our grieving neighbors whose sons died in the War.

We saw the ‘boys’ home from the war, build their little houses.

We are the last generation who spent childhood without television; instead, we imagined what we heard on the radio. As we all like to brag, with no TV, we spent our childhood “playing outside” .

We did play outside, and we did play on our own. There was no little league. There was no city playground for kids. The lack of television in our early years meant, for most of us, that we had little real understanding of what the world was like. On Saturday afternoons, the movies, gave us newsreels of the war, sandwiched in between westerns and cartoons.

Telephones were one to a house, often shared (party lines) and hung on the wall.

Computers were called calculators, they only added and were hand cranked; typewriters were driven by pounding fingers, throwing the carriage, and changing the ribbon. The internet and GOOGLE were words that did not exist.
Newspapers and magazines were written for adults and the news was broadcast on our table radio in the evening by Gabriel Heatter.

We are the last group who had to find out for ourselves. As we grew up, the country was exploding with growth. The G.I. Bill gave returning veterans the means to get an
education, and spurred colleges to grow.
VA loans fanned a housing boom.

Pent up demand, coupled with new installment
payment plans, put factories to work. New highways would bring jobs and mobility.
The veterans joined civic clubs and became active in politics.

The radio network expanded from 3 stations to thousands of stations Our parents were suddenly free from the confines of the depression and the war, and they threw themselves into exploring opportunities they had never imagined.

We weren’t neglected, but we weren’t today’s all-consuming family focus. They were glad we played by ourselves until the street lights came on. They were busy discovering the post war world.

We entered a world of overflowing plenty and opportunity; a world where we were welcomed.

We enjoyed a luxury; we felt secure in our future. Depression poverty was deep-rooted.
Polio was still a crippler.

The Korean War was a dark presage in the early 50s and by mid-decade, school children were ducking under desks for Air-Raid training.
Russia built the Iron Curtain and China became Red China.

Eisenhower sent the first ‘advisors’ to Vietnam.
Castro set up camp in Cuba, and Khrushchev came to power.

We are the last generation to experience an interlude when there were no threats to our homeland.

We came of age in the 40s and 50s.  The war was over and the cold war, terrorism, global warming, and perpetual economic insecurity had yet to haunt life with unease.

Only our generation can remember both a time of great war, and a time when our world was secure and full of bright promise and plenty. We have lived through both.

We grew up at the best possible time, a time when the world was getting better, not worse.
We are the Silent Generation “The Last Ones”
More than 99% of us are either retired or deceased, and we feel privileged to have “lived in the best of times”! ANON

If anyone knows who wrote this I would like to give credit to the author. At 88 I was in the middle of this Greatest Generation. As Democratic politicians are trying erase history I hope they are unsuccessful. History is an adhesive that keeps us trying to save our Republic form of government that made us the envy of the rest of the world.

IF YOU NEVER MET AN ANGEL, MEET MINE – Part Two

II am now home but still taking therapy two days a week. My new left knee is doing great and I have now played three rounds of Par 3, 18 holes. Having a left leg that does not bend when you swing is making golf fun again. Caring for my Angel makes my play dependent on someone to care for her.

Hospice has taken over her necessary healthcare issues and this will permit me to keep her at our home as long as I can care for her other vital needs. I will try to explain with actual events. One of the major problems I was having when I ask Hospice for help was bathing. Strange as it may seem the Hospice Nurse told me this was a major problem with elderly people, especially females. I was concerned that it might have been fear of remembering that a hot shower might scald her. Regardless scalding water can be dangerous. Hospice comes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to help her with her showers.

There is no doubt that anyone with memory factors can be seriously injured if what might happen, happens. Misuse of sharp knives can be injurious to someone who might not know what a butcher knife is for. I can only imagine how much damage and pain could happen if you put a can of anything in the microwave and it exploded? Some things like the thermostats and the stoves I have asked her to avoid successfully. On other things I have made signs to place asking or warning her to avoid and so far it works.

After I asked her to take the dog out after dark one night she got lost in a neighborhood we have lived in for 27 years. It took me 30 minutes to find them, scared beyond belief. Simple things you would never expect anyone to forget, they forget. She has me select what she needs to wear the next day. I have cooked every meal we have had for the last 25 years so I am well aware what she likes to eat. She never ate snacks between meals but she forgot and she has gained 15 pounds in the last year.

Often my Angel forgets that she has slept in pajamas all of her life. She probably has 20 pair of pajamas in her closet. She usually goes to bed about 8 or 8:30 and I tell her every night to put on her pajamas. At least 4 nights a week she will be sound asleep in her clothes and even her bra. Unless I go make her change she appears comfortable sleeping in her clothing.

I have a twofold reason for creating this record. One for others to use should they ever need to as safety aware as necessary. Two, hopefully share with me things I need to be aware of from now on. Hospice has fulfilled my lack of knowledge with a single number I can call 24/7 and get immediate instructions on what to do next.

In addition A Hospice Nurse comes every Monday to take her vital signs and ask pertinent questions and make suggestions based on the stage of the Dementia. I was somewhat surprised that Hospice is available based on medical examinations but should you know or not that severe memory loss is incurable 100% of the time.

Please share your experiences with me and I will continue to keep this dialog open as long as I don’t croak. C Brewer March 2

IF YOU NEVER MET AN ANGEL, MEET MINE.

I

Part one of a series.

I am in the Sabine County Hospital/Texas for physical therapy on my left and second total knee replacement in the last eight months. To all of my friends who responded to my last message, thank you dearly. After you read this I hope you agree, God, loaned me an Angel.

Norma Dean Maxey arrived on this earth August 30, 1938 in Frisco Texas. Our paths crossed when she was about 13 as I rode to work and worked with her father, who was my also my supervisor. Fate or God had us living only 2 blocks apart. With a normal Texas life she lived with her parents and her dad was transferred to Garland TX. One event was when she graduated from Grand Prairie High School my first wife and I treated Norma and her best friend Paula Martin to a concert featuring Fats Domino and Little Richard in Dallas.

Later and after I was divorced by my first wife I had not seen Norma for some 3 years. Her Dad and I were in a meeting together and he invited me over one evening for dinner. Some six months later we were married. Next June 23rd will be our 59th anniversary.

We have four wonderful children and I fathered 3 others who are all retired. Currently and counting spouses, I have 49 dependents. If I live long enough I will write a story about this group, that would make anyone proud.

My Angel’s phrases that are still in service. First one is “Can I help”, slightly adjusted to “What can I do to help. I try so many ways to let her help but she can’t usually remember she has asked me when she utters the last word.

Our first 13 years found me working long hoursand often going 14 days and never see the kids awake.  She never complained and took care of business. We lived our first 12 years with only one car. At one time we had three baby beds, and three in diapers at one time. There were no disposable diapers and they had to be washed  several times each day.

She now sleeps at least 12 hours a night and catnaps in her Lazy Boy throughout the day. About 20 months ago with the help of our baby daughter we found her a miniature Poodle at the local rescue agency in Hemphill. Brina

Is the focus of her life. Making her responsible for the dogs care gets her out of the chair several times a day.

Those who remember her beautiful gardens, her love for birds and her tidy home would not believe life here today. The initial event that caught my eye was her insistence that  our checkbook was balanced at all times. She just suddenly ignored this task. When I asked her why, she just said it was my time to let her retire.

We moved to Sabine County Texas after our baby daughter married hopefully for our last phase of life. We have a lake home I designed on the shores of Toledo Bend Lake. This has been home for the last 26 years. Life here is wonderful, no need for clean air regulations. Lowest taxes in Texas and 21 miles to the closest Walmart in Louisiana

Norma now need care, love and help for the rest of her life. I am making sure she is pampered which is now my job.  Watching my Angel disappear is the most painful event of my 88 years. Losing the love of my life at my advanced age leaves little to look forward to.

I intend to write a series of articles that might help others with this terrible malady. I am learning my new responsibilities and please help me explain this terrible medical condition to others. Share your stories with me and I will share them with others.

QUALITY- A PROFESSION ELIMINATING ITSELF?

QUALITY from Birth to Death?

This old 88 year old began his career in Quality Control in 1952. Quality Control was a new name for “Inspection” when they blended Inspection with Statistics and a new Department was born. The Inspection function, was made an independent activity during WWII, that separated inspection from manufacturing. The reason was more of a safety issue to help protect the military from human errors in a critical World War.

I helped input and still have a copy of the first Quality Control Manual created for Temco Aircraft Corporation. I was involved with the incorporation of statics and the inspection function. Quality Control gained stature with a Director who reported directly to the President. This type of Quality Control Department is still not active in the small US business world unless it is mandated by the customer. One exception might be if the company had been fined or caused human fatalities that resulted in excessive legal costs. Most just decided on closure and/or bankruptcy.

In the late 1950’s along came NASA and another gain for the Quality professional, I had advanced to the then title of General Foreman of Inspection. The company name had been changed to Ling Temco with no advancement in management reporting or title. In i960 we acquired Chance Vought Aircraft and the company was known as Ling-Temco-Vought or LTV. In the middle 1960’s the company decided to build a separate plant for missiles and space programs and I spent the next 16 years as Manager of administration or all testing functions. At age 47 I completed a Master of Science degree and a proud 3.92 GPA. NASA over the years had been able to remove the name “Control” as we actually controlled nothing but ourselves. NASA also combined Quality, Safety and Reliability into one department. A giant step for the quality function.

My last two years with LTV I served as dead end Manager of Quality Planning with no chance of advancement after two suffering years completing my Masters Degree.

In 1978 I was offered a position with Otis Engineering, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Halliburton Corporation. This was a significant stature and responsibility promotion for me. My title was Director of Quality for a company with sales of eight billion annually and I reported to the President and had to have my departmental operating plan presented and approved by the Halliburton Board of Directors annually. My need was the first Quality Program Requirement instituted by the Department of the Interior for design, fabrication and testing for Surface and Sub-Surface Safety Valves and named SPPE-1/-2 used in US offshore oil and gas wells. This program introduced a totally new form of Quality for the oil and gas industry. This program was a derivative of NQA-1/-2 created for the Nuclear industry earlier, This was like taking a still inspection industry far beyond itself into the NASA/Nuclear world in one giant leap. This leap was a common giant step for all suppliers. During my time with Otis my department required over 425 employees worldwide

This was a new leap for me as instead of dealing with Air Force, Navy, Army or Nasa the agency that managed the Nuclear and SPPE programs was the American Society for Mechanical Engineers or ASME. This was only the second program that was ever required deal with third party agencies instead of Government agencies. This form of Quality functioned through a committee structure that was responsible for its operation. Operating as ASME Committees the structure was a Representative for what as named the Main Committee and there were committees for Surface Safety Valves, Sub-service Safety Valves, A Quality Committee and a Committee for Testing. Each Committee had a member from the ASME, a member from the Department of the Interior, am member from the manufacturer of each device, a member from the testing organization and a member from the public, Each committee elected a Chairman and a Secretary and meetings were scheduled quarterly. These meetings rotated and usually lasted 4 days. In addition the Chairman of  the Main Committee, the ASME Director of Accreditation, the Department of the Interior representative met semi-annually in Reston Virginia and at ASME headquarters in New York City.

These two programs were the beginning of the current ISO third party, accreditation and registration programs that began later as ISO 9000-1/-2 Requirements that began in the late 1980’s. For credibility reasons I was chairman of both the Main and Quality Committees for over 5 years. Two as the Manufacturer representative and three as the Public representative as I left the Halliburton Cooperation after 5 years to further my career in Quality Training and Consulting that lasted eleven more years before I retired in 1994.

My remaining eleven years of Quality work was both public and in-house training on three continents with a partner for the first several years, Richard, Dick, Kleckner, We trained some 40,000 individuals in both Quality System Auditing and familarism with the ISO 9000 Standards This took us to four Countries and likely 25 states and we also had a special Auditor program for the airline industry that trained people from every airline in the free world. We both had separate Consulting businesses and we did several programs together for some of the larger industries/airlines including an in-depth audit of Eastern Airlines shortly before it went bankrupt.

Another join venture was the forming of a company in 1990 to be accredited to issue ISO 9001/-2 registrations. Quality Systems Registrar, QSR, became the first American owned company to be Accredited to issue ISO Certificates. QSR is still in business with over 400 customers. Being smaller than the giants of Registration we have always limited our size to make sure we can develop bonding relationships and some of our customers have been with us since our Accreditation. I still serve as a member of our Board of Governors that assure credibility to QSR’s operation. There may still be other Quality professionals still functioning that are my age but all of the giants of Quality like Dr Juran, Dr. Demming, Phil Crosby for a few were acquaintances or friends have long ago departed. The only other friend still working is Hank Farlander, another Dallas friend I first met when I was Chairman of the Dallas Chapter of what was still the ASQC in the early 1980’s,

My reason for taking the time to create this article is I am now watching the Quality leadership of today slowly destroy all of the barriers I helped remove to gain stature for the Quality Profession and the Quality Professional. I tried hard to not create a book but without explaining the wars I helped fight for stature many Quality professionals have no idea how hard it was to gain stature for a function that adds no value to the large companies except improved operations and reduced waste. In my career I worked in twenty three countries, visited in nine more and worked forty nine States. In my last eleven years I flew over 3,000,000 miles and spent over 2200 nights traveling. I started or help start nine different businesses in 4 countries.

I wrote this a few weeks ago and sure enough the following events are unfolding. Greed finally tripped up the leaders as predicted.

Watching today’s accreditation organizations like the ANAB, an AQC subsidiary, join with the foreign accreditation bodies keep trying to expand responsibilities for Quality into risk management, and other fields that will fail eventually when the costs of Accreditation and Registration exceed the increasing beyond any possible savings will kill the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg. When the last cycle of increased costs were introduced a couple of years ago I tried to warn the ANAB they were swimming in uncharted waters and I was ignored. If the AQC does not make certain the top leadership is aware of the shark filled waters Quality as a profession will get the first self inflicted black eye in my 65 plus years. I doubt that the AQC will have the honesty to print this article and at least generate discussion to prove me a wingnut or get some sanity involved before the bloodbath begins. I have nothing to lose or gain as my days are numbered. I just can’t believe the wild intrusions into other areas like design are an act of wisdom.
