Part 3, THE INVASION.

After living alone for nearly seventeen months, the entire family Norma and I produced, gathered for a week’s vacation together. One thing was evident, for the next seven days the dog and I would not be alone. Our family had spent 21 years together for a week in Surfside Texas from 1968 until 2018. From 1999 until 2018 we spent 19 continuous years together. Fill in every year as we vacationed every year after Norma and I married 62 years ago. 

My memory of the first vacation was in June of 1963 and it was a trip no one would ever forget. Our first child, Laurie was 2 years on June twenty fifth. Our 2nd anniversary was on June twenty third. Our son David was born on June fourth and was not quite 3 weeks old. My Mother was with us and away we went at 9:30 PM to visit my brother, Jimmy and his family in the Seattle Washington area. Our first stop was in Green River Utah at 6:00 PM the next day after driving over 1100 miles. The next day took us 750 miles to Baker Oregon. On day three we arrived in Seattle shortly after noon, and another 250 mile drive. Only as a benchmark; we were gone 23 days; visited 13 states; Vancouver Canada; drove over 6300 miles and paid for the entire trip with $650 I won the night we stayed in Las Vegas. Whew Our #3, Lisa was born 6-30-64 and #4 Leah was born on 10-30-65. 

Now for a description of our recent vacation trip to Surfside Texas. Laurie and Steve drove to Hemphill on Thursday June third to pick us up. We departed the next day for an experience that was a long way from being alone. With one more dependent, Sabrina, our 15 years old Poodle, we were on the way. After some 3.5 hours we arrived at our beach home for a week. 

The home we rented was not new to the family   as we had stayed there four or five times before this 2022 event. Next we faced unloading the equivalent of two moving vans into the home that is about twenty feet above ground. It has stairs on both ends and a ramp on one end to use wagons and dollies to move in. This home has 14 bedrooms, 10.5 baths, a media room, a huge living, dining, kitchen area and decks on both ends for some fresh air. The entire home is on one large level. 

Over the next two days the remainder of the Brewer Bunch arrived, Lisa, her husband Hank and daughter Emma: Leah Stone with daughter Alyssa, Son, Nick and son-in-law Travis; David, his wife Karina, son Blake, likely his intended, Kelsey, daughter Megan, husband Austin Gisclair, sons Miles 1, Henry 3; daughter McKensie, husband Jesse Gautreaux, granddaughter Isabel 3; Laurie’s son Landon, wife Airen, son Sam 6 and our firecracker granddaughter Iley 4. We also were blessed to have a family friend who we adopted many years ago, Thomas Howard, and his partnerJeremy with us all week. They demonstrated a drone that took pictures and was unbelievable in actions it could perform. 

We enjoyed an array of food all week that was hard to describe. Waffles, breakfast rolls, eggs biscuits, sausage, gravy, biscuits, Mexican food, tamales, chicken, pork, salads. Desserts beyond description, Daiquiri’s. For all of the years we have vacationed together menus have been exciting, delicious and challenged both the cooks and the eaters. 

As a family, watching the new generations appear has been exciting and a challenge for us all. As I am soon to be ninety two I always wonder why God has allowed me to watch my family grow and grow into five generations. 

With all of the things I have experienced in my lifetime the love of my life was chosen by God to come to Heaven too early. I will never question that decision and I am sure my future was decided a long time ago. I feel certain my wife Norma and our son-in-law Tony are continuing their tasks as Angels today in heaven.

Living Alone…. Part 2

Wills…Some 30+ years ago my stockbroker told me I needed wills for Norma and myself. The reason was to protect our investments from outrageous income taxes on savings and property we were amassing for our retirement.

We bought a fishing cabin on Toledo Bend Lake in July 1983. In 1958 we were offered a chance to buy the property the cabin was constructed on and we began the creation of our retirement living complex. At this point I made a decision to put both the land and construction in Norma’s name as she was eight years younger than I was and would logically be the last survivor.

When she died it was several months before I realized it was time to make the changes to put the property into my name. Next, I discovered that my decision was not the smartest thing I ever accomplished. The County had sent me the tax bill for 30+ years and I had paid the taxes. I was advised to find a title company who was required to trace all transactions for those years before they could issue a new title for the homestead.

At that point I went to a local Title company to get the process started. While waiting to meet with someone, a lady asked me if Norma had a will and when I responded “yes” another question was asked. “Has the will been through Probate?” I believe my next response was “what is Probate?” At this point I was given information on Probate of wills.

My next appointment at a later date was a meeting with an attorney. During this meeting I learned more about Law than I had learned in my lifetime. I was advised that our wills were written during a time that taxes upon death were created to minimize taxes on anything willed. I was advised that the wills were primarily designed to tax everything and if you had a good will it was a tax saving advantage. Norma’s will was sent to our four children with questions for them to answer. 

To help others understand is the reason for each chapter of what looks like it will be a book, if I live long enough. This chapter is designed to help explain wills and Probate by a non-lawyer to other non-lawyers. As I have  grandchildren from a previous marriage who are attorneys I feel certain they will correct me if I make any mistakes in this chapter? 

Last week I was notified to join my Attorney to attend the Probate of Norma’s will. My Attorney, Sabine County Judge, the Honorable Judge Daryl Melton and two ladies that were working with them asked me a series of questions that were totally understood. At the end of each question I was asked to sign each document and I was given copies. The meeting was very professional and each question was fully understandable. 

After the meeting the attorney asked me to make arrangements with his secretary to meet and complete the changes to the property titles and my Will. He will go over any changes we made or need to make to my will to make it compatible with changes to laws made over the last 30+ years. 

Another legal issue that needs to be involved and completed involves a Trust I had another attorney create a few years ago. At this point I plan to leave our homestead to my seven youngest grandchildren. This will make sure the Trust and my revised Will remain compatible when I die and my designated Power of Attorney is required to have my Will probated. I also intend to spend my last breath living in Sabine County, Texas where all remaining legal business will be conducted.  

Hopefully this chapter will help other senior citizens with wills and Probate to make sure they understand the laws before they die. My next meeting is scheduled for June 13, 2022. I will include any future actions concerning Wills or Trusts should this meeting require any other legal dialog that can help others understand.   Clyde Brewer   5-26

LIVING ALONE

On Saturday January 23, 2021 Norma, my loving wife for sixty years died after seven years suffering from Dementia. Unfortunately this was the beginning of the end of true happiness for my family. All of our children were grown and we had resided over 200 miles away from all in our families for the last thirty years. For 25 of my last 30 years were the happiest of my 90 years on God’s Earth. 

Norma was a beautiful person both inside and out. For me she was the perfect mate and with her love and support she helped me achieve success beyond my wildest dreams. We had four children in four years and four months and coupled with my work life we molded them into outstanding Americans. Three of our seven grandchildren are married and have so far produced five great grandchildren.

Norma was my second wife and my three older children coupled with the others have now grown to sixty with the recent birth of another great Grandson this year. My oldest will be seventy three this month. From this group there are six doctors, four lawyers, a CPA, a business owner , aerospace manager, a petroleum engineer and six teachers. I love them all and I have been retired for nearly thirty years and this is my home. 

I thought about possibly traveling some more but I have flown over four million miles in my lifetime. I have visited thirty two countries and worked in twenty three. I have worked or visited forty nine States with Alaska being the only one I have missed. With my daughter, Leah, we have discussed a trip to Alaska along with my friends, John and Patsy Sommers who live in Baton Rouge. The trip sounds like fun but with the Neuropathy in my feet and ankles and the long flights and connections sound like suffering.

I am sure that a cruise would be the perfect vacation but my driving is limited to short trips here in East Texas. With family living in Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Arlington, Euless, Austin, San Antonio they help me find rides without torture. Another plus is having the Port lm Galveston. Except for one GrandDaughter, who lives in Los Angeles, the rest of the family live in one of the Texas locations listed. 

I live in a Lake front Home I designed with six sleeping sites that will accommodate twenty one adults. I have three baths, four hot water heaters, three central AC’s, three window type ACs. All of the AC’s have heat. I have a small fishing pier and over 3000 sq feet of wooden decks.  I have covered parking for four full size vehicles. Here in deep East Texas we have 60” of rain, three months of possible winter, two months of spring, four months of “HOT” and three months of rainy weather.

So far I try to play par three golf on a local course with about a dozen fabulous friends three times a week. Being the oldest, my friends take care of me when I get fatigued most of the time. 

Norma missed playing Bingo after she could no longer remember the numbers. Until a week before she died we had dinner at Hemphill BBQ every Thursday evening. Billy, Bobbie, Tiffany, Tim, Ann, Cotton, Chance , Dr. Peter Forrest, Norma and myself are always welcomed with a prayer by Larry Weaver. Before she died I had published over 1300 articles on WordPress and this article was posted since then.

I have tried many times to write more but I just can’t get motivated. For many years I walked two miles five days a week. Now I can’t walk 100 yards without rest. One promise I did keep was to care for Norma as long as I was capable. With help from family and Hospice I was able to care for her in our home until she died. Now I depend on  Tim, Tiffany, Chance and Chelsy to keep me at home instead of a nursing home.

I wanted to close with another thank you for Norma’s dog, Sobrina. My baby daughter Leah assisted me about five years ago in locating who we call “Brina” in an animal shelter. She is a miniature Poodle that had been abused. She and Norma became inseparable and now she is my shadow as we grow older. We had family pets most of my life but none who had captured my heart like she has. She is blind in one eye, overweight and glued to me to care for her. I am now nearly blind in one eye, overweight and I must have care to help me. Brina is my shadow but she fails short in a few more areas. She can’t cook, drive, clean the house or talk. If she could talk I am sure I would be happier.

Living alone results in a life of loneliness that happens when any spouse passes on. I never read about senior life alone but I suppose I could write a book to help others cope. As I think about it this could be adjusted to be chapter one should I get motivated to keep adding chapters?     

My dreams created my Bucket List and I have completed every promise but one. “ Live to be 105 years old and be shot by a jealous husband”.  Now, that would be scary.

Would anyone possibly desire to read a chapter Two?

ONE OF THE SADDEST DAYS OF MY LIFE

We will gather this morning to review and honor the life of my youngest Son-in Law, “Tony” Stone. “Tony” who asked for my daughter’s hand and they were married on February 2, 1991.

As I am now 91 I can truthfully say “Tony” and Leah had a charmed life and created two faithful and loving children. Alyssa and “Nick” arrived after Norma I retired and our time with them was delightful.

We lost my loving wife, Norma” eleven months ago tomorrow. I will never forget the words that Leah uttered to me when we first talked, “Dad, I just wanted to hear your voice, “Tony” is now with Mom.”

Tears will flow today and our families will honor our child, man, father and leader, “Tony Stone”.

“The NEWS says the California port situation is caused by a driver shortage.

Not so fast: It is in part caused by a California Truck Ban which says all trucks must be 2011 or newer and a law called AB 5 which prohibits Owner Operators. Traditionally the ports have been served by Owner Operators (non union). California has now banned Owner Operators.

Long term, truckers in California are not investing in new trucks because California has a law that makes them illegal in 2035. The requirement is to purchase electric trucks which do not exist.

And in the words of Paul Harvey, “Now you know the rest of the story”

BUSINESS CARB to begin blocking certain trucks’ DMV registrations in 2020. Carriers domiciled in California with trucks older than 2011 model, or using engines manufactured before 2010, will need to meet the Board’s new Truck and Bus Regulation beginning in 2020 or their vehicles will be blocked from registration with the state’s DMV, the state has said.

The new “health-based requirements” will need to be met before a driver is allowed to register his or her truck through the Department of Motor Vehicles, CARB says. A new enforcement tool used by the DMV beginning in 2020 will automatically block 2010 and older trucks from registration.

These ships full of goods are not being brought into port and unloaded because there are no trucks to take the goods away from the port. There are no trucks to take the goods away from the port because California law made all the trucks that take the goods from the port illegal. California’s extreme environmental laws are creating nationwide shortages of consumer goods.

When you are voting in the next couple of weeks, remember all these hardships that Americans are now facing. These hardships are being directly created by Democratic leadership. Your suffering is their agenda.

CHAPTER TWO

Planning for old age or anything else when you are sixty five or older is no different than visiting a casino in Louisiana, Oklahoma or New Mexico. I feel sure the Baptists will always make sure Texans have to travel out of State to improve life in every abuting State but Arkansas. Arkansas will join the other states long before Texas is a State. If the movement currently where to see Texas secede from the United States we will see casinos erupt like live volcanoes from Beaumont to Texarkana to Amarillo to ElPaso to Brownsville and back to Beaumont in 30 days.

First let me discuss life Insurance which is the worst investment I ever made. I whetted your appetite with one illustration in Chapter One. My first life insurance was provided by the U. S. Navy. During my active duty tour the very last thing I had to worry about was life insurance. Marriage at 18, fatherhood at 19, 21 and 23, no car until I was 23. At 21 I was released back to inactive duty in 1951. From that day forward the only life insurance I ever had was whatever was provided by my employer until I left Halliburton in 1983 and you already have that fiasco in chapter one. 

Today I will admit my lack of knowledge about term life insurance which is designed to protect younger people could have ruined me. Obviously if I knew how long I would live I could have saved more for old age.

The other nearly lifetime insurance you have to have unless you were born with a silver spoon is coverage for your automobiles and homes. If you had to finance either you should initially find an honest “INDEPENDENT insurance company.

I bought my first house when I was twenty two a year before I bought my first car. Texas had a program that allowed veterans to buy a house that costs no more than $10,000 at 4% and insurance was included. $50 a month for 40 years.  

At 23 I bought my first car, a 1940 Chevy for $175. I do not remember how much the insurance was but I had to get a loan for $100 that required a listing of every appliance we had as collateral and the car dealer financed the other $75. From that moment I had insurance with “State Farm” until I was 65 when an independent Insurance agent asked me why I paid for my coverage every six months. He advised me that when you could pay for a year in advance you should get a 15% discount. I have only bought insurance from an independent agent these last 31 years.

America’s next insurance decision starts at age 65 when you reach Medicare if it still exists after Biden and the Demoncrats rob the future from my sixty heirs (At this point in time). When I was 65 there were different rules for Medicare. We had a basic premium deducted from your Social Security check which is $184 and you bought a supplement that covered 20% of your basic healthcare charges. At this time my premiums are $325 a month   Along came Bush11, a Progressive in hiding and a new plan to cover all or part of your drug costs was born. My current premiums are nearly $100 a month. Next comes the dental costs. I pay $38 a month for insurance that pays less than 50% of my dental costs. 

Unless you do not have a radio or a TV you are bombarded with commercials, the worst person to explain this possible disaster is Joe Namith. It is called Medicare Advantage”. If  you buy this without understanding the Hype provided by the “Huckster” you may discover you screwed yourself. The limitations can generate cost depending if your local Doctors or hospital require you to pay in cash if you choose this option. I happen to live in Sabine County Texas where the “advantage” plans are not accepted. The TV Hucksters fail to warn you and the insurance companies must love the new options as some sell both types of coverage. I contacted Jerry Howell, Sabine County Hospital administrator, who had their Insurance leader send me a package that exposes the negative aspects of the new Advantage Plans. 

Unbelievably the hospital has an ad in today’s weekly Sabine Reporter that will relieve me from trying to explain the details to everyone. If you have an interest and you should, “open the camera app on your mobile device and point to the image on the right or go to www.chosingmedicare.org to watch videos on your healthcare choices after age 65”. Share this with every friend and family who is now or soon to be 65 sixty five.

AN OLD HISTORICAL EVENT

BEWARE OF WHAT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED

These quotes should still remind all Americans to wake up even though they happened over sixty years ago. This sobering event was of little concern then. Every American alive today should be aware as we have open borders and Russia is still an enemy of the free world. A

Russia’s Khrushchev delivered the following message to the United Nations on September 29 1959. His predictions were directed for the United States of America. His predictions for America were an emotional event. TV coverage of him banging his shoe on the podium.  At that time, the word ‘communism’ was feared throughout our nation. Now here is some food for thought if it does not make us choke!  Do you remember?

“Your children’s children will live under communism, You Americans are so gullible.  No, you won’t accept communism outright; but we will keep feeding you small doses of socialism until you will finally wake up and find you already have Communism.

Remember, socialism leads to Communism. So, how do you create a Socialistic State?  There are 8 levels of control; read the following recipe.   

1) Healthcare – Control healthcare and you control the people. 

2) Poverty – Increase the poverty level as high as possible, poor people are

easier to control and will not fight back if you are providing everything for them. 

3) Debt – Increase the debt to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes, and this will produce more poverty.

4) Gun Control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from the Government That way you are able to create a police state.   

5) Welfare – Take control of every aspect (food, housing, income) of their lives because that will make them fully dependent on the government. 

6) Education – Take control of what people read and listen to and take control of what children learn in school. 

7) Religion – Remove the belief in God from the Government and school because the people need to believe in ONLY the government knowing what is best for the people. 

8) Class Warfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. Eliminate the middle class. This will cause more discontent and it will be easier to tax the wealthy with the support of the poor 

Wake up America. 

Unless you have mental issues, this is exactly the current agenda for the Democratic  party?

PLANNING FOR OLD AGE.

Chapter one, Introduction

My children have urged me to write a book to help them prepare for old age. Some of them might be used as examples as my seven children range in age from fifty five to to 72. I reached ninety one (91) on August 31, 2021. Rather than try to remember all that happened to me year by year I will share the events in my life broken down by type of events. Sports, gardening, finance, travel, planning, healthcare, insurance, wills, trusts, children, grandchildren, property and possibly more if I live long enough to complete the book.

You can sign up to receive anything I write and publish on the above site. Some other subjects may be written as I attempt to help old men plan and hopefully enjoy groprepared for this phase, you may never reach many of the following chapters. They keep extending the beginning age to start Medicare as the average age for both men and women keep rising, factual or not. If I had planned better I would have had more income but I was convinced I would never live to be 70. Other planning mistakes I made will be included in each Chapter . Mistakes made early provide impacts that you wish you had known about when you were younger. I hope this Book will help my family as well aswing old. The reason I mention just old men as in some chapters like medical I do not know everything women face but I will try to include events my wife of 60 pulse years of marriage including the horrible disease of Dementia and Alzheimers that took her life 1-23-2021. There is a difference that you need to understand.

My next chapter after this Introduction will be the most important thing to prepare for is Healthcare. If you are not  yours if you follow my advice.

To whet your appetite I will reveal how insurance companies and the tricks they can spring on you, are the biggest legal theft that you can face when you get old. One trick they play is to sell the insurance policy or the entire company to another Insurance Company who then raises your premiums as much as 400 percent. This happened to me on a $30,000 life insurance policy that I had paid premiums for 17 years. I had paid over #10,000 in premiums I lost when I could not justify the new premiums.

HOW CAN DEMOCRATS IGNORE TREASON?

I wonder if the 80 million Americans who voted to elect Biden President will ever get enough of the systematic destruction of our country? Next Tuesday I will be 91 years old and it hurts me to just feel we have a President I cannot accept or support as a true American or a man I can’t even address as “Mr” Biden. 

His actions to destroy America’s allied leadership, open our southern borders to every terrorist on earth, ignore our tradition to never leave Americans behind and lead us into harm’s way set a new low for people who call themselves Democrats. Not one accepted Democratic leader has even shown anything but happiness over this destruction. George Soros must have enough money to reward them all. 

In 1945 America’s leadership helped  the free world defeat Germany and Japan’s actions that killed millions and their plan to conquer the entire earth.  I was fifteen and had watched this war bring Americans together and not only help win WW!! But we also defeated the misery of a horrible depression and raced to replace over four million 18-21 men who met death far too soon.

As my generation was beginning and we had so many voids at every level, training the ones who survived the war to help lead our nation was priority one. Opportunity for the youth like myself was limited. Wealth lost in the depression limited higher education to veterans and the youth of the two percent of Americans who had ninety eight percent of the money. Driven by admiration for our veterans and limitations on starting most career paths I could not wait to enlist in the US Navy Reserve when I made seventeen on August 31, 1947. 

Agreeing to the enlistment pledge to turn yourself over to the US government for the term of your enlistment was and is likely unknown to most Americans today. You basically  put your life 100% in the hands of the military leadership. Not a problem in peacetime but changes dramatically in a time of war. This is why we have “Drafts” when the word “War” is included. I only wrote this paragraph to show what kind of armed services we have today and the fact that everyone in our military today are volunteers. 

I wanted to share what the Media likely does not know or care to share with the public. I served my enlistment until the day before my 21st birthday plus one year added because of the Korean War. I Volunteered for Active duty and served 3 ½ years of my nearly five year enlistment. I salute every service member who ever served in our military. I still tear up listening to the “Star Spangled Banner” and my term as a member of the US military will end when God decides my life has terminated.

Let me share a story that became one reason for my loss of respect for any American that supports this ill fated deviation from both American Law and apparent hatred of our military by Democrats.  

The news of our pull out of all military support for the people of Afghanistan made me sick. This ill timed news means Biden signed a  death warrant for every Afghani who supported, died or pledged their support for America and our allies over the last twenty years. Every time the Democrats try to make excuses for these idiotic moves more people are likely to be slaughtered. Every American and Afghani who dies because of these unforgivable decisions are blood on the hands of every American who voted for Democrats in the 2020 elections. Now they have given everyone above a week for all to get out of Afghanistan by August 31st, My 92 birthday.

One more item I wish to share is about an interpreter for one of my golfing friends. My friend had been weighing a new offer to return to Afghanistan one more time some 60 days ago. He made his decision to turn down this offer just a few days ago. When the news of the Democrats’ decision to leave these loyal Afghanis to be murdered, including everyone in their family, my friend immediately began a search to help his friend who had helped us so much. Yesterday he told me he had contacted his friend and although the US would not accept all of his family for extraction to the United States, the entire family was accepted by our allies, the Australians, and were on the way to freedom. My friend was dancing with joy because he was able to help save one family’s five lives.

If you have any Democratic friends, ask them to help you understand just this one decision as they race toward Socialism that even their leadership fully understands, will not help one American alive today.

HOW CAN DEMOCRATS IGNORE TREASON?

AFGHANISTAN WOKE ME UP.

Anyone who may have read any of my 1300 plus articles published on cb75948.wordpress.com will know I have written  that history will conclude that Lyndon B. Johnson did more to divide the American citizens than  any American in history. His actions killed nearly 60,000 young American lives in Vietnam and probably twice that many with wounds caused by Agent Orange poison after the war was over. A war that history will prove was designed to help the banking industry.

When my wife died in January I had decided to pay to maintain my many years of work and hopefully my family will maintain it after I die. I just could not get the motivation to write anything any more. I blamed it on my advanced age. I have aging limitations but there is nothing wrong with my brain now that a nap after lunch is all I need to carry on.

Watching all of the chaos in Afghanistan brought back the pictures of our military trying to save both American and loyal Vietnamese with a handful of helicopters from roof tops in Saigon.
